Crittenton Girls Advocate to End Sexual Harassment

At the 2018 Leadership Summit, Crittenton Ambassadors chose 'End Sexual Harassment' as the main issue to present to the adults at the High Tea. Crittenton Ambassador, Chontel explained why the girls chose to advocate for this issue. “We need to put an end to sexual harassment. This has become so common that girls are scared to speak out. People need to know that just because we wear a certain type of clothing or look a type of way, doesn’t mean we can be touched or disrespected.”

Leadership Summit 2018

On April 20th -22nd, Crittenton Services of Greater Washington held our annual weekend event for 50 teen girl participants in our programs called our Leadership Summit at the National 4-H Conference Center. We provide a series of workshops and enrichment activities to build on the girls’ leadership skills, confidence to self-advocate, and capacity to effectively communicate their ideas.

"Talk with a Teen Girl” High Tea 2018

Crittenton Services of Greater Washington hosted its annual Talk with a Teen Girl High Tea on Thursday, April 26th, 2016 at the Silver Spring Civic Center. More than 120 teen girls and 100 adult guests came together for a conversation on issues ranging from gender equality to stopping sexual harassment.

Achieving Academic Success, One Step at a Time

Ericka Portela lights up when she talks about the girls in her middle and high school SNEAKERS groups. She is a Crittenton Program Facilitator, working with both English and Spanish-speaking girls in Montgomery County. One of the ways in which Crittenton serves girls in the DC Metro area is by helping them to improve their academic performance – an achievement that can be frustratingly elusive at times. But, Ericka has a method – focusing on short-term goals to create a foundation for academic success.
